Rising Acuna Promoted to AAA Gwinnett

Five tool outfield prospect Ronald Acuna has been promoted to AAA Gwinnett. The 19-year old was recently named the Braves #1 prospect by Baseball America, #10 overall.  He started the season ranked #62.

At AA Mississippi Acuna slashed .326/.374/.520 in 221 at bats. He blasted 9 home runs while racking up 30 RBIs. A big plus with Acuna is he hit right-handed pitching better than left, .320 vs .273.

Acuna, who has been compared to Andruw Jones, started the season in Single A, before being promoted to Mississippi. The fleet-footed Venezuelan recently impressed while competing in the Futures Game.

Acuna turned heads in 13 spring games, hitting .296 with a .387 OBP. The powerfully built Acuna is expected to join the Gwinnett team tonight in Charlotte.

Depending on Matt Kemp‘s health and a potential Nick Markakis trade, Acuna could arrive in Atlanta this season before the September call ups.
