It took 6 innings, but the Braves finally got things going against the Nationals.  They got a 5-2 victory and trimmed the magic number to 2 games on Wednesday night.

The Nationals scored 2 5th inning runs to take a lead on the Braves.  The first Nationals run came on a bases loaded walk.  Alex Wood, who was ejected for arguing balls and strikes, walked Jayson Werth to score Anthony Rendon.  The next batter, Bryce Harper, hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the Nationals 2nd run.  This time, it was Denard Span that scored the run.

In the next half inning, the Braves would start to fight back.  Dan Uggla trimmed the lead in half with a home run to left field.

After an Elliot Johnson fly out, Justin Upton had the tying run on 3rd as he came up to bat with 2 outs.  He came though big time with a huge 2-run homer to put the Braves ahead 3-2.

Upton’s big home run gave the Braves the lead and boost they needed.  His home run seemed to boost the morale of Braves players and fans alike.

It really seemed like the Braves rallied around Fredi Gonzalez and Alex Wood.  They were both ejected for arguing the strike zone.  The Braves used that as fuel and turned that fuel into runs.

The Braves avoided a disastrous sweep at the hands of the Nationals.  They were able to salvage at least 1 game of the series.  Hopefully the Braves will be able to ride this win and gain some momentum these next two weeks.

The Braves will enjoy an off day before heading to Chicago to play the Cubs.  They can clinch a playoff spot with any combination of Nationals loss plus a Braves win.  Hopefully, they can close it out in Chicago against the Cubs.

Good win last night, just what was needed. Hope for some good playing down the stretch. Like the fire Wood brought to the team. It was really needed and the rest of the team responded! Go Braves
